Bugs on Medium

I have noticed there are quite a few bugs here on Medium. Not just some minor problems with the GUI for example, but serious bugs that, for example, caused a deletion of one of my published articles. I wonder if someone really tests this site (?)

How did I manage to delete a published article?

I went to my published articles and instead of seeing a bunch of them with their titles, I saw a few items with “Untitled article”. Unfortunately it does not happen anymore, so I have no screenshot of the situation.

To make things worse, I clicked on one of those untitled articles and pressed delete. Why did I do it? I thought I might have published some nonsense by mistake and wanted to get rid of unfinished articles that do not have a title yet.

However, it turned out that “untitled article” was not really untitled, but the title was just incorrectly shown to me. It was a real article with a real title. And I managed to delete it :(

I can continue with some other bugs. For example, there was a note left to me in the now-deleted article:

A note for an article that has been deleted

When I click it, I immediately get 500 from the server:

500 response code

Obviously the article is now deleted. Perhaps not really deleted, but it has at least such a flag, so it does not show anywhere in my profile.

I’d expect it doesn’t fail like this. 500 response code is like saying “yeah, there was an error, but we didn’t know how to deal with it”.

Articles might be in different states, it would make sense to try to accomplish various actions with the articles while they are in these states. It doesn’t seem someone has explored this.

I like Medium for its simplicity and GUI. On the other hand, the bugs are almost at every corner, and it makes it much worse an experience. I hope it will become better in the future.
